That said, I'm not sure this will become my main method for animating. This is a case where the object couldn't be part of the obj from Das Studio, since it uses C4D lights and dynamics. There is a torus Constraint/Clamped to her hand, and the rest of the lamp is attached to the torus with a connector "hinge" so it swings back and forth as the character moves. I rendered a test where I have an obj/mdd character carrying a lamp with lights inside the lamp. Honestly, it's a bit of a pain, since you have to do all kinds of gyrations to position the object to where you want it, but it does work.

Not sure why, but the Constraint tag apparently won't "parent" an object to a point selection on another mesh so that it will move and rotate with it-you have to clone the object onto the point selection using Mograph cloner object. Here is a link to a test of the obj/mdd in C4D with Constraint: obj/mdd constraint This really extends the flexibility of this figure format for me! And great work on the latest part of Galactus-I particularly like your sets and use of lighting and textures! I have to admit that my biggest peeve with some 3D works is lack of lighting-it's what 3D does best! It also works the other way around, so that you could parent a figure onto a prop so that the figure would move with it, like on a motorcycle or something. You can maintain the point selection even when not using it, so your base obj file could always be ready to hold something when you need it to. The one nice thing about this is that you wouldn't need to make a whole new obj/mdd configuration just to have a character hold a couple of different objects. So, for example, I chose a point in the palm of my figure's hand and I was able to parent a sword to it so that the hand "holds" the sword and moves around with it perfectly. I thought the same was true for parenting a prop to an obj/mdd file (and maybe you know this one) but I discovered yesterday with some testing that I could actually use Mograph and a Constraint tag to "Clamp" a prop onto an obj/mdd figure by making a selection of a single point in the mesh and having the prop parent to it. I have been experimenting with the Poser Plugin for C4D lately (I used that years ago before IPP), and it works pretty well, but unlike IPP, you can't parent a prop to a figure once it is in C4D, or add hair.

I wish I could say the same for InterPoser-I don't know if that will work in later versions of C4D. I did look on Spanki's site and saw that he has been updating Riptide, so that's good. On my Youtube Channel: Quest of the Key teaser (AutoDidact, we corresponded privately about iClone for lip sync some time ago, but not about mocap per se, but it sounds like you might have some thoughts on this.) Thanks in advance for any advice! From what I can see, iClone (maybe with the Curve Editor) might be useful-the Reach Effector might be nice to fix foot sliding, for example-so wondering if anyone has any thoughts or experience with this. At the very least, I'd be happy if I could find a good mocap editor that could import/export BVH files on an M4/V4-compatible skeleton to be used in Poser. I would still like to use my Optitrack rig on one end, and render in Cinema 4D on the other, but would be happy to replace the steps in between if there was a better solution. This method works pretty well, I think, but it's aging and I need to update.

Presently, I export BVH files from Optitrack Motive, and import those onto Daz M4/V4 characters in Poser (since the animation tools in DS stink, as does their BVH import), edit/compose the animations in Poser (including hand motions & expressions), create lip sync in Mimic Pro (some of you may not have been born when that came out), use Interposer Pro to bring the animations into Cinema 4D. iClone seems to have come a long way in a few years, but I'm a little confused about what I might be able to use from Reallusion and if it would be better than what I am using now, so I'm holding off on a purchase until I have better idea of what I would need. I have my own pipeline for animation that works fairly well, but I'd really like a better way to clean up my mocap. I am traditionally a Daz/Poser/Cinema 4D user and have an Optitrack mocap rig.
